The UCLA Promise Armenian Institute Meets with Delegation from Armenia

UCLA PAI team discussed relevant areas of mutual interest with delegation from Armenia.

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, a group of scholars from the Promise Armenian Institute at UCLA (PAI) met with a delegation of representatives from Armenia. The U.S. visit was hosted by the UCLA International Visitors Bureau and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Their visit to the U.S. focused on Policymaking and Regional Stability: A Project for Armenia.

During the meeting, Professor Ann Karagozian, Director of the PAI, provided an overview of the numerous programs associated with the UCLA Promise Armenian Institute, including prior and ongoing outreach activities to the Republic of Armenia. The UCLA hosts and the visitors had extensive discussions on relevant areas of mutual interest, including educational programs, research activities, and further opportunities for outreach. The fruitful visit concluded with a luncheon in honor of the visitors at the UCLA University Club.

The UCLA team that welcomed the delegation was led by Prof. Karagozian and also included: Dr. Taner Akçam, Director of the Armenian Genocide Research Program of the PAI; Professor Shant Shekherdimian, Associate Director for Healthcare Outreach of the PAI; and Professor Victor Agadjanian, PAI Internal Advisory Board chair and distinguished professor of sociology.  They were joined by Nanor Hartounian, Program Coordinator of the Armenian Genocide Research Program of the PAI and Ann Kerr, UCLA’s Fulbright Scholar Coordinator, along with Gohar Grigorian, Program Officer of UCLA’s International Visitors Bureau and coordinator of the UCLA visit.

The five member delegation from the Republic of Armenia was composed of Robert Ananyan, Analyst and TV Anchor, Factor TV; Tigran Grigoryan, Director of the Regional Center for Democracy and Security; Armine Margaryan, Founder and President of the Women and Global Security Architecture think-tank; Suren Parsyan, Associate Professor and Researcher at the Armenian State University of Economics’ AMBERD Research Center;  and Armen Petrosyan, Senior Advisor to the Director of the Public Relations and Information Center in the Office of the Prime Minister.
